Representation Analysis

Representation is the way certain groups of people are represented by the media and are classified upon their characteristics.

H&M "close the loop"

This advertisement promotes the recycling of clothes while showing a variety of models that are different sizes, races, ethnicities, genders, ages and that are expressing themselves in distinct manners. The ad ends connecting with environmentalism and water conservation.
In this ad, people that are rarely represented in fashion advertisements include elders, different religions represented by men, and overweight people. For the audience, it could serve as a mean of empowerment thought it provides different styles of people for various groups, but there are some representations that are left behind. Often in fashion commercials, the woman figure is represented with a stereotypical body with no hair whatsoever, but here we see an example of how different women can be in fashion.

Axe body spray commercial

This commercial dehumanizes the women by representing them as animals going after their prey.  There's a stampede of women in bikini running through rough terrains just to get to the single man spraying axe over his body, this advertisement then ends with the phrase "spray more, get more."
This ad minimizes the representation of the female figure to the point where they aim for their desired audience, men, and attain losing support from the majority of women around the world.
All about this advertisement is about is aiming to appeal to the male audience with the purpose of them buying their product.
